How did Koloman Moser and his contemporaries create multicolored marbled paper? Within the framework of the European Artistic Crafts Days, the MAK focuses on the art and craft of manufacturing marbled paper. In the dialog tour “Experimenting with marbled paper: rediscovery of a traditional skill around 1900,” MAK curator Anne-Katrin Rossberg and conservator Sophie Schneider explain the art-historical and technical aspects of this practice that underwent a renaissance around 1900.

A visit to the exhibition KOLOMAN MOSER: Universal Artist between Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffmann draws attention to the marbled paper experiments of this co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte—ranging from bookend papers to figurative wall decorations. Afterwards, additional historical precursors as well as marbled paper works by Moser’s contemporaries from the MAK collection are presented in the MAK Kaminzimmer.
