HELMUT LANG ARCHIVE

Project Manager: Lara Steinhäußer, Curator, MAK Textiles and Carpets Collection
Project Editor: Claudia Marchtrenker
With its over 9.000 records, the HELMUT LANG ARCHIVE—the result of a generous donation to the MAK by Helmut Lang in 2011—is one of the largest sections in the MAK Textiles Collection. Starting in 2014, the material in the museum’s possession has been exhibited in the MAK DESIGN LAB in a kind of “display depot” with varying focal points. The MAK is thus the only institution worldwide in which the Helmut Lang trademark’s development and identity can be traced between 1986 and 2005. The archive is being gradually inventoried and processed along professional guidelines, incorporating cross-references to objects in the other 20 international museums that house Helmut Lang collections. The information thus obtained will be stored in the databank and as far as possible made available to the public in the MAK Collection Online.
