MAK Works on Paper Room
Besides Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1848), Ando Hiroshige (1797-1858) was the most important landscape artist of the late Edo Period. This series of views from sixty provinces, which comprises 69 color woodcuts and was published in Edo (Tokyo) from 1853 to 1856, belongs to the artist's crucial works. While some very famous prints of the series were of great influence concerning the development of European art, many others remained unknown. The MAK shows the complete series from its Japanese collection for the first time.
