MAK Works on Paper Room

Pervasive in shops, apartments, and workplaces, gaudy calendar pictures constitute a characteristic aspect of Indian everyday culture. Ranging from the representation of Hindu goddesses (‘dharmic icons’) to pin-ups (‘filmi icons’), these pictures elucidate the role of women in popular iconography. The 90 pictures shown in the exhibition – including 5 original designs – come from the collection of Patricia and J. P. S. Uberoi.
