GEORG SALNER

SU.SY

Wed, 11.11.1998–Sun, 10.01.1999

MAK GALLERY

Georg Salner's works are based on analog and digital, manually and industrially manufactured, found and selfmade materials. They are to be understood as an analytical expansion of painting and the practical results of a differentiation of the artistic principle of easel painting. For his exhibition "SU.SY" at the MAK Gallery Georg Salner will incorporate the structure of the room with its dominant longitudinal wall as a basic parameter of his work. The essential intention of his spatial concept is the exploration of this rectangular wall by a modular matrix consisting of many parts and the functional balancing of the room by additional design interventions. The Austrian artist defines the projected space as a "laboratory" for processing different paradoxical moments between picture, object, space and viewer.
