PARTING WITH ARCHITECTURE
Roland Rainer's Municipal Hall in Bremen
Wed, 20.11.2002–Sun, 05.01.2003
A MAK Architecture Presentation on an Urgent Matter.
Municipal Hall, Bremen planned from 1955 to 1958, built between 1961 and 1964
Architectural achievements are being jeopardized more than ever these days. It is only the quick profit that counts, irrespective
of quality. An attitude of ignorance, randomness, and the will to control competition decisions prevails which is not concerned
with the development of our cities. This climate of disrespectfulness is exemplified by the way the work of one of the most
important contemporary architects is dealt with: Roland Rainer's Municipal Hall in Bremen is in danger! Raising the roof as
planned will definitely deprive the hall of its character.
