MAK – Museum of Applied Arts

MAK DAY 2021

Admission € 6, tours at no charge
Tue, 26.10.2021 10 am –9 pm

MAK – Museum of Applied Arts

Like hardly any other institution, the MAK stands for the fruitful linking of past and future. This also becomes tangible and experienceable during a visit of its extensive collection, its expansive showrooms, and its thematic exhibitions.

In the exhibition SHOWROOM WIENER WERKSTÄTTE: A Dialogue with Michael Anastassiades, the Wiener Werkstätte takes center stage and is receiving much attention thanks to the engagement of a contemporary designer with its wide range of products—furniture, textiles, wallpapers, and metalware. In the MAK DESIGN LAB, the newly opened exhibitions TOKENS FOR CLIMATE CARE: An Installation by Process – Studio for Art and Design and MAYFLY: Functional Collages guarantee contemporary inspirations.

Admission € 6, tours at no charge

MAK Branch Geymüllerschlössel

Pötzleinsdorfer Straße 102, 1180 Vienna
11 a.m.–6 p.m.

In the Geymüllerschlössel, a Biedermeier-era gem in Vienna-Pötzleinsdorf, the MAK presents original furniture from the first half of the 19th century, Old-Viennese clocks from the Franz Sobek Collection, as well as the interventions of contemporary artists and designers. Immerse yourself into the world of the Empire and Biedermeier era, which here stands in a fascinating contrast with the ceramic sculptures of Erwin Wurm. The sculptural body segments invade the Geymüllerschlössel’s interior, creating tableaux vivants—dramaturgical arrangements located between movement and stasis, history and the present—in individual rooms. In the garden of the Schlössel, Erwin Wurm’s sculptures of Carrara marble connect up to the artist’s role in critically illuminating and distorting our world.

11:30 a.m. & 3 p.m.
