Timothy Wilson, Emeritus Professor of Balliol College, Oxford, and former Keeper of Western Art of Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, as well as guest curator of the exhibition TIN GLAZING AND IMAGE CULTURE, will explain in a tour the meaning of Italian majolica for the history of art and ceramics in Europe. The restoration of historical majolica pieces from the MAK Collection will be illuminated based on examples from the exhibition.
In a workshop open to the audience, the contemporary Italian majolica artist Marino Moretti, together with the ceramics studio and the Institute of Conservation of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, will practically demonstrate the technique of majolica ceramics. On the spot, he will form and glaze pieces which will subsequently be fired at the ceramics studio of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
