20.3.2015—31.5.2015
International Exhibition
The exhibition Do It Yourself Design at the Schaudepot of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich focuses on the combination of design and the do-it-yourself approach and asks what the DIY movement means for the design process. An integrated workshop will offer a practical approach to this and other related questions. The exhibition was created in collaboration with the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art in Vienna, where it was presented in a different form under the title Nomadic Furniture 3.0: New Liberated Living? (12 Jun – 6 Oct 2013).

The DIY movement has influenced nearly every area of our daily life and material culture. As a result, the fusion of production and consumption is increasingly shaping developments in design. The problems that the so-called “prosumer” culture raises range from the decentralization and democratization of the production of goods to criticism of mass consumption and insufficiently sustainable products. However, the DIY phenomenon also points to the rediscovery of craftsmanship and the joys of the sensual process of creating. An integrated workshop will allow visitors to contribute objects of their own design to Do It Yourself Design.
