Austrian Entry for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia 2021
27.5.2021—29.8.2021
MAK Forum
It involves the changes that the ascendancy of digital platforms is causing in all areas of our life – from living, working, and learning to health, freedom, and culture. The pandemic of the past months has made quite clear just how dependent we are in the meantime on platforms in our everyday life and the extent to which the use of platforms is changing our environment.

The most important resource of platforms is our participation. The Austrian entry designed by the curators Peter Mörtenböck and Helge Mooshammer is in this sense conceived of as a platform for active involvement with the future of the city and its architecture.

Parallel with the presentation in Venice, the curators have organized an exhibition in the MAK FORUM, which establishes a dialog with the Austrian pavilion in Venice with video installations and an interactive online platform and makes the theme of platform urbanism accessible for visitors in Vienna who cannot travel to Venice.

The physical exhibitions are accompanied by an extensive Internet presence: in addition to the website with international contributions from bloggers and the social media channels, the “We Like” image bank offers the possibility to upload image suggestions for the architecture of the future, in keeping with the general motto of this year’s Biennale Architettura of “How will we live together?”
