VIRTUAL WORLD GUIDE DAY

From Biedermeier to Historism to Art Nouveau
Since 1989, the World Guide Day has taken place every year around 21 February inviting visitors to numerous free guided tours and talks. Although the MAK reopened on 9 February, guided group tours are sadly still not possible for the time being. Therefore, the event has been transferred to the virtual space offering video tours by Viennese guides on selected objects from the MAK Collection in line with the motto of this year’s world day “From Biedermeier to Historism to Art Nouveau.”

As a center of competence for Vienna 1900, the MAK not only addresses these topics in its collection and numerous temporary exhibitions but is also part of the EU project ARTNOUVEAU2 dedicated to the Art Nouveau heritage in the Danube region.

The culture magazine by the Viennese guides published in the context of the world day is also dedicated to the topic “Biedermeier–Historism–Art Nouveau” and is now available for free at the MAK as well as at further distribution points.

Furthermore, the Viennese guides will also present two online talks on the topics “Vienna Becomes a Metropolis” and “Women Artists between Baroque and Modernity.”
