MAK Design Kids: The Protest Fest!

You want your cause to be seen and heard at the next demo? Then after a tour of the exhibition PROTEST/ARCHITECTURE: Barricades, Camps, Superglue—with its focus on topics such as democracy, equality, and climate justice—let’s design some placards, posters, and T-shirts for your next demo! What do you want to protest about, and what’s your cause? We’ll give you a few design tips and look forward to your energetic input!

MAK – Museum of Applied Arts

From May 1980 a protest camp developed in the Flörsheim Forest southwest of Frankfurt am Main in opposition to the expansion of Frankfurt Airport. It blocked the construction site for “Runway 18 West.”

A stretch of forest occupied since 2012 on the boundary with the Hambach open-pit mine. Over the years elaborate structures have been built there, featuring suspension bridges, solar panels, and heating stoves. A new generation of interconnected tree houses were built after the site was cleared in 2018.

THE FORMAT MAK DESIGN KIDS
Workshop for 8- to 12-year-olds (unaccompanied). In two-hour workshops, the MAK Design Kids turn their attention to furniture, fashion, patterns, and more while always keeping an eye on digital developments. The children will get to know design processes, develop their own ideas, try new techniques, or learn how to work with special materials.
