The walk-in installation conceived by soma architecture for its solo exhibition at the MAK deals with elasticity, the ability of specific materials to remain flexible, to be shaped and changed in a variety of ways. Elasticity also means an open approach to space and architecture as well as its perception and interpretation by people. The branched, cloud-like spatial structure also remains symbolically elastic: it does not prescribe meanings, and instead can be freely and individually interpreted. Despite the artificial nature of the material, it has the appearance of a living, growing organism and remains chaotic and ambiguous in spite of its stringent adherence to rules and clear geometric structure. In its elasticity, it stands for the speculative conception of space with which soma architecture explores the complex interactions between perception and geometric principles.
